Moving to a new home

I have moved over to a new blog. This new home is where I can broaden my horizons and it fits my new altered life much better. I hope old friends will find their way over and can live with the fact that it might not be all knitting- don't get me wrong I still love it but I am making time for other things I love to do too!

You can find me at Ever a Work in Progress

Have a great weekend!

How wrong was I!!

It seems that by the end there were over 4000 of us taking part in this challenge. Wow that is phenomenol by anyone's standards and a bit shout out to Ravelry and the folks over there that organised it all!

Well I did finish the mitts. I had an interesting time with the pattern (which could have been avoided had I read it properly oops) and messed up on one of the thumb gussets but they are just for me and they were finished in 12 days so 5 days ahead of schedule so yay for me.
On the downside however attempting two projects was a step too far and the scarf is sooooo far from finised lol, maybe by 2012.....

And they're off!

Well at 1pm Friday I'll be picking up the needles and taking part in the phenomenon that has become Ravelympics. There are over 1200 of us taking part in several teams.

The rules are simple; you must cast on during the opening ceremony and cast off before the torch goes out at the end.

Rather stupidly I have signed up for 2 events, the mitten medley and the scarf for TeamMine. Probably a bit much to take on but hey ho I love a challenge and the finished products will be well used.

Good luck to all Ravletes!

I know I know....

....more socks.

I love these socks! These are tidal Waves but with some changes, ooo how brave do I feel lol! I made them short socks and carried the pattern down the top of the foot. The Dream in Color Smooshy yarn is so lovely to work with, really soft and the changes in tones are so subtle, will definitely be ordering lots more of this!

But I'm going to take a break from socks for a bit - some early Christmas knitting to get on with.

Another FO

The waving lace socks are finished!

Now I loved this pattern and I loved this wool but I would not put the two together again. The lace pattern only needs a solid yarn and this yarn is so gorgeous with the tones that it can be seen to its best in a piece of plain knitting.

Now onto the next..........

A lovely week with added stash!

Been another busy but great week here. Went to a friend's wedding on Thursday and had a fabulous day. Sadly DH couldn't get the time off work so my lovely son escorted me. It was blowing a gale and although the heavens opened when the newlyweds left the church it brightened up into a gorgeous afternoon and evening.

DS and me - running late as usual!

The beautiful hotel where the reception was held.

Was lucky enough to add to my sock stash this week from Socktopus - what excellent service, gorgeous wool, beautifully wrapped and quickly delivered. Thanks Alice will definitely be calling again!

Been focusing on finishing the waving lace socks since I am desperate to use the blue to start my Muscari socks from Knitty for the July/August knitalong, ah well back to the pins

Hope it's been a good weekend for you too!

Another FO

I don't know! It's like buses, nothing for ages and then two in quick succession. This is a winter hat/headband called Calorimetry, which I finished as part of the July KAL (knit-a-long) for one of the forum groups over there. Will be great with my long hair, it's so think I get far too warm in a hat but love cosy ears!

Time for a catch up

Ok I really need to stop starting new projects till I get something else finished, some people are just such bad influences lol. So what's ongoing

This is the first of the mitts that I'm making for my aunt's birthday - she suffers from really bad circulation and her hands are always cold so thought these would help. The pattern is one I sourced on Ravelry and the wool was gorgeous and soft - Alpaca Superfine

Fellow Ravelry users.....

Is it just me or do you spend far too long on the PC and not enough time on the pins? lol

Have managed to progress in a few more projects so promise to update over this week!

Come back soon.

Last chance for a bit

Well the summer's here and I'm glad of the break from daily life. Cases are packed for a lovely week away in Paris with my boys so thought I'd just leave a wee update for now.

The Waving Lace socks are well underway just turned the heel on the second one, apologies to Ravelry colleagues for the repetition but here is the first one

I've also finished a mitt for my aunt's birthday but no pics yet, thought I would alternate these with the socks for a bit of a break and I have cast on a little top for me (my "selfish" groupmates will be proud of me) in some lovely cotton that I've had in the stash for about 18 years - eek!

Have a good week everyone - promise to be a better poster on return. ;-)

The Famous Jacket

I can only own up and say that it has taken so long to post these pictures as I have tried about 200 pictures and cannot take one that doesn't in some way look ridiculous so I have now thrown caution to the wind and gone with "over the top".

As for the jacket - well I have to be honest and say I am a bit proud of this.

Another sunny Saturday

What a great day this has been! In fact the whole month has been fabulous - sun shining, skies and blue, the birds are singing and the needles are clicking. Have left it too late in the day to take pictures so please check back tomorrow.

We saw the funniest thing - I was taking DS out on a job hunt (he is determined to find part time work although with his studies we have reservations, anyway...) when we saw a little chubby baby of about 6 months sitting in his car seat with little chubby feet and he kept looking down and grabbing his feet and then chuckling with delight as though he had never seen his toes before. Funny in itself but he did this 5 or 6 times and each time his reaction was the same - precious!

So tell me what made you smile today?

Hello folks!

Well it’s been far too long! Work just got in the way of real life recently but this is a potted version of life in our house over the last few weeks.

We’ve been making some headway in the garden. The landscaping at the bottom of the garden is complete and some of the pots are up and running. My little herb garden is coming on fine. I opted for oregano, lemon balm, rosemary and curly parsley and some Indian mint in a separate container to stop it taking over.

We went to the local distillery and bought a couple of half barrels which I fixed up and have planted salad leaves in. My first foray into growing food! I can’t wait.

On the knitting front the jacket is finished – still to photograph this though so bear with me. I’m working on my waving lace socks from Favorite Socks, using some gorgeous Old Maiden Aunt wool. I love making socks – so addictive and you can pick them up and put them down without much thought.

Loving getting life back on an even keel here this week, hope all is well where you are too.

First socks are done!

Yay - I am so happy with these and I was staggered that I managed the toes and heels with no trouble. These are Priscilla's Dream Socks from Favorite Socks. Can't wait to pick which pair to knit next. I can totally see why people say socks are addictive!

Little pressies

I love this pattern. I got the pattern for Saartjes bootees via Ravelry and decided to make them just as little mindings for a colleague's granddaughter and a neighbour's granddaughter. The wool was just someordinary double knitting that I have had in the drawer for years - literally!

They are so quick and easy to do and just so sweet too.

Spring has sprung.

It's been a beautiful day here today, in fact all last week and this the weather has been fantastic. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and all is well with the world. Can you tell I'm off work for two weeks, but boy does the time fly! In the garden the plants are starting to grow again too. This little pieris (sp?) was a cutting that was put in 3 years ago and it's just about to burst into flower, gorgeous!
On the knitting front today was a breakthrough moment, I turned my first heel, with no frogging needed. I am loving this - it's Priscilla's Dream Socks from Favourite Socks , which I'm making in Artesano Alpaca in Lourie. This is my first trip into socks but I can see how peeople can get addicted.

Already planning my next project, I'll keep you posted.

Take care x.

A fresh start...

Well this is to be a new home. For some time I have had my papercraft/art blog (click the link if you fancy a look) but I don't want to clutter it up with musings, anecdotes and more especially my knitting stories so a new second home it is then.

As I am on holiday from work for the next week I will get this up and running as best I can but please stop by often. =o)
